This unit at 614 Punggol Dr is a resale HDB apartment with an estimated floor area of 990 sqft. It features a Contemporary style. Completed in Nov 2021 last year, this modern-looking HDB unit has a dark and dramatic look similar to many world-famous monochromatic art pieces in modern history. Fittingly known as 614 Punggol Dr, it follows a contemporary style, highly-sought after by sophisticated urban dwellers and minimalist enthusiasts today. This unit uses marble followed by natural wood as its primary texture since natural marble gives a high-polished feeling of modern exclusivity. Meanwhile, natural wood has a chic and rusty look that adds an essence of sustainability, aka the green-concept, kind of vibe. The two-tone monochromatic look is the main highlight here since the two different colors contrast against one another, like yin and yang.

Just like yin versus yang, the purity of the white color contrasted dramatically with the deep, dark black hue. The effect of the black color is so dramatically intense that it immediately casts a moody look to the entire atmosphere. Imagine watching The Addams Family on a 1960s black and white monochromatic tv, but with an updated contemporary look to suit the present modern day. Here, the designer maximized the color black on the house decor and furniture, from the chic-looking bed covers in the master bedroom to the super-premium natural black marble in the bathroom.

We would like to recommend this designer to renovation enthusiasts who are on the look for something chic and unique, like the two-tone monochromatic look. However, be prepared to fork out more than usual of your hard-earned moolah since the designer uses a generous amount of natural black marble, especially in the four corners surrounding bathroom walls. As history is known, natural black marble is extremely rare. Due to that, it is an expensive commodity used selectively in the most emblematic of projects, like luxury interiors. Other than that, we also feel that the designer is highly-recommended due to their impeccable eye-for-detail and aesthetic vision. By all, the designer is not a mere cookie-cutter random designer that gives you dull and saturated designs, often replicated and copied by others. The designer and his team are true visionaries that see the present, future, and beyond the infinite.

1. Bedroom

The bedroom is like your standard, stereotypical modern-day bedroom. Aside from the furniture, there are very few objects and decor here. You see a Zinus queen-sized mattress and bedframe, a MySeat white dressing table, and random green plants hanging above the small, wall-hung MySeat bedside table. White color virtually dominates the plastered ceiling above, surrounding Dulux natural white four corners of the walls, the vanity table, and the small, wall-hung bedside table. But a dark cloud envelops the bedroom in the form of its bedsheets, window curtains, and some random small decor. Despite the dark, moody look of the bedroom, natural bright sunlight from the window panes permeates inside.

2. Bedroom

This is still the same bedroom but viewed from a different angle, aka perspective. From this view, everything seems much brighter and pleasant. Even the bedspreads seemed to have lightened-up in colour compared to the previous viewing angle. Since previously, it looks dark, shadowy and gloomy. Here, the Siongdoor solid wood bedroom door is highly-visible to the eye. As usual, the surrounding walls and ceiling are in Dulux natural white color. The random green plants hanging out from the top corner of the bed adds a touch of bright colour to the bedroom atmosphere. As mentioned, plant are a symbol of life and renewal.

3. Toilet

The bathroom is far from being a standard bathroom, despite its chic and minimal appeal. But what makes it stand out is its generous use of high quality Hong Lee Spain originated AP Nero Marquina natural black marble. Natural marble is a rare earth-bound mineral and therefore is super-expensive due to that factor. In this room, natural black marble is in every nook and corner of the surrounding bathroom walls. Due to that, it evokes a super luxurious and high-polished look reminiscent of visiting a posh, 5-star worthy hotel. Luxury factor aside, natural black marble also gives a cooling and soothing sensation to the entire bathroom atmosphere.

4. Living Room | Dulux

The living room is like your standard modern-day living room. The only difference is it is in a two-tone monochromatic color. Despite the stark whiteness of the Dulux natural white ceilings above and the main walls, this whiteness is out-shined by the deep, dark black colors. Therefore, causing both colors to overlap against one another, with black being more dominant here. Other than the dark and intense ala moody atmosphere, notice that the furniture and decor here are minimal. For instance, there is no random clutter or unnecessary frills. You see a Comfort Furniture Kayama Three Seater sofa set, a small round coffee table, and a Nook & Cranny black rimmed Wilton round mirror set placed on the wall behind the sofa.

5. Kitchen | LG

The kitchen is simple and minimally chic, although you don't see much from here. You can only see the Carpentryttt customized built-in kitchen cabinet, the LG three-stove electric cooker and the kitchen exhaust hood, and a pot of natural garden plant on the cabinet counter. The dark, moody vibe of the kitchen appliances here contrasts dramatically with the bright green natural potted plant. Compared to the surrounding darkness, the isolated piece of green potted plant light up the atmosphere. After all, green plants are a symbol of life and renewal. Therefore, they bring in a touch of light to the darkness, like good versus evil.

Final words

Overall, the design and theme throughout the house are consistent. It fits perfectly with everything surrounding it. The colors used are two-tone monochromatic, aka black and white. Due to that, the colors overlap with each other, like yin versus yang. In addition, the contrast of the black and white colors gives a dark and moody look to the surrounding atmosphere. Some might even say the feeling is reminiscent of traveling back to the Gothic past, ala Bram Stoker's Dracula castle in Transylvania. The only difference is that the designer has fine-tuned this look to go along with the modern times.

Finally, one can conclude and give their thumbs up that the unit is designed expertly for home dwellers who prefer this uniquely chic design. For instance, if you are daring enough and want something different from the rest. And also, you are an individualist who does not follow the status quo.
